Youth Works |
The Youth Works Project is an innovative and creative skills-link
program designed for youth who have been formally diagnosed or
self-identify with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). The
program receives funding through Service Canada and assists youth
ages 15-29. This program assists youth to recognize and learn to
overcome any individual obstacles to employment and/or education. It
is unique in that it provides a supportive and motivational
environment that assists and inspires individuals to work towards
their long-term goals.
The components of
the Youth Works program include:
- A safe,
non-judgmental and highly supportive environment
- A paid
incentive of $8 an hour

Transportation support and assistance
- Computer lab
- Training
opportunities (WHMIS, Food Safe Level 1, and First Aid Level 1)
- Advocacy and
support

Incorporates culturally relevant services that accommodate
individual diversity

Employability skills, Life skills and Educational supports
- Work with
service providers on a one-on-one basis as well as in group
settings (team building)
- Receive
support and encouragement through instructions, role-modeling
and real practice
- Learn to
network with and access other personally relevant community
services
To be accepted
into the program youth must be:
- Between the
ages of 15 – 29

Professionally diagnosed or self identify with Fetal Alcohol
Spectrum Disorder (FASD)
- Out of
School/non completion of high school
- Legally
entitled to work
- Canadian
Citizen, permanent resident, or a person for whom refugee
protection has been conferred
- Not be
receiving Employment Insurance Benefits (EI)
